All Safetussin Products are Free of Decongestants
Nasal Decongestants found in over-the-counter (OTC) cold and flu medicines include a warning that they could raise blood pressure3,4. OTC Decongestants when taken by mouth help open a stuffy nose, but they don’t just act on the nose. When taken by mouth, these decongestant medicines act throughout the body on receptors to cause vasoconstriction (blood vessel constriction)5,6. When OTC decongestants constrict blood vessels, they reduce swelling in the nose, but because they work throughout the body, the blood vessel constriction may cause an unwanted side effect of raising blood pressure5,6.
All Safetussin® Products are free of decongestants which means they do not have a high blood pressure warning, and all Safetussin® products are formulated to be safe for people with high blood pressure.
