Why are Safetussin® Products Different?
Because of the connection between high blood pressure and diabetes, Safetussin® products are formulated to provide safe and effective cough and cold relief to an important population:
people with high blood pressure and diabetes.
All Safetussin Products are Free of Decongestants
Nasal Decongestants found in over-the-counter (OTC) cold and flu medicines include a warning that they could raise blood pressure3,4. OTC Decongestants when taken by mouth help open a stuffy nose, but they don’t just act on the nose. When taken by mouth, these decongestant medicines act throughout the body on receptors to cause vasoconstriction (blood vessel constriction)5,6. When OTC decongestants constrict blood vessels, they reduce swelling in the nose, but because they work throughout the body, the blood vessel constriction may cause an unwanted side effect of raising blood pressure5,6.
All Safetussin® Products are free of decongestants which means they do not have a high blood pressure warning, and all Safetussin® products are formulated to be safe for people with high blood pressure. Always read and follow label directions, and ask your doctor if you have individual health questions.
All Safetussin® Products are Free of Sugar, Fructose, Sorbitol, Alcohol, & Dyes
Medical experts advise people living with diabetes, depending on their individual health condition, that they may need to avoid, limit intake, and/or closely manage ingredients that can impact blood sugar, such as sucrose (table sugar), fructose, sugar alcohols, alcohol, and carbohydrates7,8,9. All Safetussin® products are free of sugar, fructose, sorbitol, and alcohol so they are formulated to be safe for people with diabetes. And, all Safetussin® formulas are dye-free . Always read and follow label directions, and ask your doctor if you have individual health questions.
